Established by Crossrail Limited in 2011, the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy (TUC4) in Ilford, East London transferred ownership to Transport for London in January 2017. TUCA was built and established by Crossrail for the purpose of meeting the skills training needs of the Crossrail Project and the wider industry. The site is Europe’s only specialist soft – ground tunnelling training facility and provides training for the key skills required to work in tunnel excavation, underground construction and infrastructure.
The academy has trained over 17,000 people since it’s opening.
Due to the requirement for further specialist facilities within the Academy and given the sensitive nature of some of the works and information. handled on site, work has recently taken place to expand training facilities. Under the construction of main contractor Volkers, CPS provided a security rated environment by means of the Securiclad Panel System for whom they are one of a small group of specialist nominated contractors.
By the end of 2017, the Academy will be home to the Elizabeth Line Maintenance and station staff training centre.
